OUR TREATMENT AND FEES
The techniques (methods) we are using are MAITLAND,
CYRIAX and MacKenzie,
which originate from orthopedic medicine. They are also very safe and most of the back problems
will respond to them.
-
hypomobility
-
motion restriction
-
joint fixation
-
acute joint locking
-
motion loss with somatic dysfunction
-
somatic dysfunction
-
restoration of bone alignment
-
meniscoid entrapment
-
pain modulation
-
reflex relaxation of muscles.
The first consultation (assessment) takes about an hour when we
establish the diagnosis which will determine the number and direction
of future treatments. The price of the
consultation is £50-60. Each treatment takes
approximately 30-45 min and costs £40-50, depending on the condition treated.
Because we are a provider for major medical insurance
companies ( BUPA , PPP etc.) a patient can claim his/her
medical expenses back from the medical insurance company. Alternatively,
if there is an approved letter of payment, the insurance company
can pay us directly.
Maitland's concept of Manipulative
Therapy is established as one of the standard approaches
to spinal manipulative techniques. Maitland spinal manipulation
is a commonly used technique for those with simple Back and Neck
pain. It is used to treat areas of spinal segmental dysfunction
where there are symptoms of painful muscle spasm and restricted
spinal movements. In trained hands it is a safe, effective and
comfortable treatment. It may be also used in those with certain
types of Spinal Nerve Root Pain.
Manipulation involves encouraging the 'stiff' area of the spine
to begin working again. It comprises soft tissue massage, gentle
mobilization movements (articulation), and firmer carefully controlled
movements (high velocity low amplitude thrusts -HVT'S ) which
stretch the stiff part often accompanied by a series of 'clicks
and pops'.
Each 'clicks and pops' represents a spinal facet joint being released
from its restricted state. This maneouvres often result in a very
rapid reduction in spinal muscle spasm and pain, accompanied by
a noticeable increase in the range of spinal movements. Manipulation
combined with regular specific exercises seem to the most successful
at maintaining the mobility of a previously stiff area.

ORTHOPAEDIC MEDICINE CYRIAX
Orthopaedic Medicine deals with diagnosis and conservative treatment
of soft tissue lesions of the locomotor system. The system of
orthopaedic medicine, described by Dr. J.H. Cyriax M.D, M.R.C.P.,
consists of 3 major elements:
-
Achieving a precise diagnosis is our first goal.
This can be obtained by means of a thorough interrogation of
the patient , followed by an inspection, a functional examination
(mainly consisting of passive and resisted tests) and finally
a palpation. Local diagnostic infiltration, using a procaine
solution, also can be very useful from a differential diagnosis
point of view.
-
In the field of soft tissue lesions of the
locomotor system there are many different ways to reach a diagnosis.
Is "the" diagnosis always reliable or is it just wishful
thinking?
We constantly have to ask ourselves whether the way in which
we reach a diagnosis can be trusted: are the questions we ask
relevant?
Are they carried out as objectively as possible?
Is there enough specificity, if possible?
When it comes to diagnosing a soft tissue lesion, then the Cyriax
method is the most important method which enables us to reach
a relevant and objective diagnosis.
-
Once a diagnosis has been obtained we should
look for the most efficient treatment.
What could be the best treatment for this patient, taking into
account personality , type, duration and localization of the
lesion?
Within the method, there are different options: infiltration,
injection, deep traction. This can be combined with self treatment
elements.

ROBIN Mc KENZIE EXERCISE REGIME
There is a man called Robin McKenzie, who in the last century
came across a discovery:
"Lying prone in extension is good
for my back "
The back pain can be alleviated by understanding how we can effect
and change the mechanics of the spine, back and neck, and by using
MACKENZIE EXERCISE REGIME. This regime helps
to educate patient on ways to react when they first become aware
that their back is in difficulties, simple stretching exercises
and special ways of using "push ups" helps adjust the
mechanics of the back and help shepherd the disc on the move back
into their rightful position.
